RKL offers a dedicated project management service for art commissions. This includes; creating longlists and shortlists of suitably qualified artists; interview and selection procedures; good practice guidelines; brief writing; contract writing; client/artist liaison; project scheduling; external fundraising; and general project management services.

'Shared Space' project at Ashford Kent - photo credit Jon Spencer The UK’s largest ‘shared space’ project, at Ashford in Kent.
This scheme, to re-configure the 1970s inner ring road as a series of quality streets and spaces, was completed in May 2009.
RKL’s principal consultants; Graham Roberts and Andrew Knight were members of the integrated design team and were responsible for bringing the artists into the project and managing their commissions.

About RKL

The Roberts Knight Leeds Metropolitan University [RKL] Consultancy has been formed to provide a new multi-disciplinary and multi-skilled approach to consultancy in the fields of public art, urban design and creative strategies for regeneration and renewal. RKL can draw on the skills of a core team of Consultants: Graham Roberts, Andrew Knight, Doug Sandle and Dr Ian Strange. This core team of leading experts has wide ranging international and UK experience and can be supplemented as necessary by other experts from Leeds Metropolitan University [LMU] and elsewhere. The strong relationship with LMU allows RKL to bring into play an array of expertise and facilities appropriate to the task in hand, including access to: contemporary the public purse - Melbourne , Australiatheory and practice, a wide range of data from UK and international sources, data processing and assessment, questionnaire design for SPSS analysis and an extensive repertoire of research methodologies.

In April 2004 the core team was strengthened through the addition of four Associate Consultants: Sue Ball , Sally Medlyn, Dr Rhodri Thomas and Kevin Thomas. In 2009 specialist public art project manager Hazel Colquhoun joined the RKL team.
